Over the past months, we have covered several ‘open concept’ workspaces that have been quickly gaining in popularity. As office furniture installation professionals, we’re in a unique position to weigh in on the trend moving away from the modular partitions of the traditional cubicle. One might wonder: Will this trend continue? Will the cubicle disappear from offices in the near future?
The short answer? No.
Not immediate jeopardy, anyways. While many designers are already pronouncing the cubicle dead-on-the-scene, the cubicle does serve its purpose. There will always be certain jobs that require the focus and isolation provided by modular office furniture installations, and even if there weren’t, the cubicle is so engrained in the office mentality that we would most certainly see them gradually fade away over a period of years.
That being said, cubicles are definitely not going to stay the same.
The old ‘cubicle’ concept has already taken great strides. In newer offices, the furniture installations and floor plans tend to be much more esthetically pleasing, inviting, and easier to navigate compared to the giant cold prison-like grids of the past. Modular office furniture allows a level of flexibility in workspace layout that would be unheard-of in the classic cubicle unit.
As we learn more about workplace efficiency, the ‘cubicle’ will continue to evolve as well, with office installations incorporating new technologies and concepts such as the owner-free ‘break-away areas’, sound-cancelling designs and acoustic materials, and small ‘mini-conference’ collaborative pocket areas.
Regardless of the directions in which modular office furniture take, we’ll be there, making sure that your office furniture is installed quickly, properly, and with minimal disruption to your workflow.
