We offer office furniture installation services to make your life easier, help your business run smoothly, and get you up and running at peak efficiency as soon as possible. Sometimes your choice in office furniture is just as important as the installation itself.
Office furniture might seem straightforward, but they’re often very specific to a business type, a layout, or a task. Today we’re going to take a look at which desk systems are ideal for collaboration.
Barriers, by design, can be a hindrance to collaboration. After all, they’re made to block out distractions, whether it’s auditory or visual. The barriers often have useful add-ons available such as built-in shelving, organizers, name plates, and so forth.
The advantage, however, is that once the collaborative phase is complete, high barriers can help to improve employee focus by getting their independent work done with minimal distraction.
If ‘high barrier’ is poor for collaboration, then a ‘no-barrier’ system is the best option, right?
These workplaces are often similar to small conference tables, with workstations around the edge. While this knocks down the troublesome barricades that might isolate workers in traditional high-barrier ‘cubicle style’ desk systems, it does tend to have a psychological effect of the employees’ workspace not feeling like their own.
There are a number of ‘low-barrier’ designs available that provide the psychological effect that lends the employee a sense of ownership and boundary that is missing from the ‘open concept’ desk system, while removing the isolation of cubicle-style desk systems.
The down sides: A ‘low barrier’ desk system is a bit less flexible than open concept (making it more difficult to ‘scootch over’ to squeeze someone in), and it doesn’t do anything to prevent distractions like a cubicle-style barrier.
As with most office furniture installation and selection, there’s no universal answer. Depending upon the nature of your business and the space available, you might be better suited for a cubicle system with collaborative breakout areas, or it might be most effective to have a single open concept area.
Regardless of your selection, Choice Office Installation will get your ideal workstation up and running as quickly as possible. Give us a call to schedule today!
